Forty weaned piglets (28 days of age) were divided into a control group (C) and an experimental group (QS) with ten gilts and ten barrows in every group in order to evaluate the effect of Quillaja saponaria extract on their growth. The extract was added to the experimental diet (commercial feed mixture) at the rate of 125 g/t. Piglets were weighed at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the experiment. Live weight and average daily weight gains were non-significantly higher in QS than in C piglets during the whole experiment. QS piglets had higher feed consumption and achieved better feed conversion efficiency than C animals.
