Twenty-eight control (C) and 28 experimental (E) piglets were monitored in three replications in order to determine the effect of supplementation of a lecithin emulsifier (0.1%) to a commercial feed mixture. The experiment started on the weaning day at the age of 28 days and ended four weeks later. The weight of piglets and feed consumption were monitored in weekly intervals. Faeces were collected from the floor last two days of every week in order to determine the digestibility. The daily average weight gain was non-significantly higher in E than in C piglets (399.5 g vs. 383.3 g), whereas the feed conversion efficiency was significantly lower (C=1.959, E=1.806 kg/kg). We observed higher digestibility of monitored nutrients in E than in C animals, the differences were significant only for crude protein (C=78.50%, E=82.20%). The results of an additional field experiment (1,235 C and 1,174 E piglets from birth to 81 days of age) showed that average daily weight gains were higher in E than in C piglets (304 g vs. 292 g). In conclusion, lecithin supplemented into a commercial feed mixture had a positive impact on the use of nutrients by weaned piglets.
