Evaluation of the economic properties of ´elena´ and ´presenta´ varieties on selected roostocks

The research of different rootstock combinations with two plum varieties was conducted in an experimental orchard at the Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology in Holovousy. Late ripening variety ´Elena´ (P. domestica L.) was grafted on 4 vegetatively propagated rootstocks (Fereley, MY-KL-A, Pixy, St. Julien A) and 2 generatively propagated rootstocks (Myrobalan, Wangenheim). The second, late ripening variety ´Presenta´ (P. domestica L.) was grafted onto a generatively propagated rootstock Wangenheim and a vegetatively propagated rootstock St. Julien A. The following characteristics were evaluated: cumulative yield per tree, yield efficiency, mean fruit weight, trunk cross-sectional area and number of suckers. The results showed that with ´Elena´ variety the highest yield, maximum weight of one fruit and highest yield efficiency was found with Fereley rootstock. With this variety, MY-KL-A had the least number of suckers. ´Presenta´ had the highest yield in combination with St. Julien A.
