Effect of machines on crop residues after conservation tillage

The extent of biomass incorporation into the soil was compared in five types of machines. Sweep tiller, disk tiller, spinner tiller and rototiller with two rotors complied with the requirements for conservation tillage when used for shallow cultivation, with respect to distribution of crop residues left on the soil surface. Rape residues were distributed on 30.7 % - 37.8 % of soil surface. The operating speed of tillers did not influence crop residue distribution on the soil surface. Evaluation of significance of differences between the tillers showed statistically significant differences between sweep tiller and disk tiller, between disk tiller and spinner tiller, and between spinner tiller and rototiller. Evaluation of the weight percentage of crop residues left on the soil surface in comparison with the state before tillage indicated statistically significant differences between the cultivation with a share plow and with the tillers concerned. If the tillers were compared mutually, there were statistically significant differences between sweep tiller and disk tiller, and between disk tiller and spinner tiller.
