Romanovskaya, D. | Tripolskaya, L.(Lithuanian Inst. of Agriculture (Lithuania). Voke Branch)
The rate of mineral nitrogen leaching from green manure applied in summer under winter rye (first year red clover aftermath, yellow lupine) and at the end of autumn under summer cultures of the next year (undersown red clover, oil radish as a postharvest crop) was investigated. In comparison with the insertion of stubble of grain crops alone, green manure introduction under winter crops increase the leaching of nitrogen in subsoil horizons (25-100 cm) in October-Novembr by 43.7-69.1 and 29.3-36.2 kg/ha-1N on the average. Catch crops used for green manure (undersown red clover, oil radish) in late autumn, before soil freezing, reduced the autumnal decomposition of grain matter and nitrogen leaching during the autumn-winter. In comparison with cereal stubble, stocks of nitrogen in subsoil horizons (25-100 cm) in November increased insignificantly
