The model of general and specific combining ability in the line-tester crossing system was applied for studying a genetic nature of variability and inheritance of major quantitative traits, determining productivity and early ripeness of the Fl hybrids produced by crossing 13 plum-shaped tomato lines. Overdominance of the genes controlling weight and number of fruits per plant resulted in substantial heterosis. There was no heterosis for the trait the mean fruit weight in determination of which additive gene effects dominated. Tomato lines are defined as crossing components and are recommended for their application in heterosis breeding. Correlation factors between effects of general combining ability gi and average values of signs at parental forms хi have been counted up. Only on average weight of a fruit the correlation factor between хi and gi, equal 0,73±0,27, was authentic and high enough. It testifies that on average weight of a fruit at lines of tomato plum-shaped with high probability it is possible to consider about their general combining ability, that considerably simplifies selection of large fruit forms as crossing components, especially at the initial stage of heterosis selections. To signs weight and quantity of fruits from plant there was not connection between хi and gi: here correlation factors between хi and gi were considerably below the selective errors
