In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was realized a study of a genetic diversity of 40 apple-tree (Malus) species conducted with the help of SSR markers developed for Malus x domestica Borkh. As a result of study there were revealed 306 polymorphic alleles among 20 SSR markers with an average number of alleles of 15,6 alleles per marker. Totally 40 genotypes of apple-tree cultivars and species were identified by means of these markers. Indexes of polymorphism information content (PIC) varied from 0,73 to 0,94 with an average of 0,87. The average level of heterozygosity was 0,47. Genetic distance of 40 varieties of species of apple trees were within the limits of 0,1-0,8. High polymorphism level of the analyzed SSR-markers made it possible to apply them successfully for the identification at the molecular level of both apple varieties and species. Presence of binding sites for connection of SSR-loci in genomes of wild Malus species made it possible to analyze the hybrid material obtained in the result of interspecific crossing. There was noted a low integrity of species distribution in clusters based on allele analysis of 20 SSR-loci.
