The pattern of creation of the Belarusian breed of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) which is characterized by resistance to diseases (mainly, swim bladder inflammation), increased survival at the early stages of development (underyearlings) and improved exterior. The selection works are based on the genetic material of native and foreign breeds and lines of carp made up in Belarus. At present, the preliminary works on creation of Belorussky Zerkalny carp breed (characterized by the improved traits and corresponding to the European standards) are taking place. At the present stage there was determined the efficiency of selection by the selected traits among the families and crosses of mirror carps. There was formed the junior replacement species (F3) selected from disease resistance groups. In perspective the selected carp breed will possess the heightened disease resistance, will be characterized by the mirror scale covering, round body shape with indexes of fleshing and spin-free configuration
