Effects of temperature on the development and reproduction of the Luciola lateralis were investigated at various temperature. The developmen time of eggs, larvae, and pupae were shorter at higher temperature than at lower ones. The insect did not develop at 10¡É and 35¡É. The hatchability was 61.5% at 15¡É, 73.9% at 20¡É, 93.9% at 23¡É, 91.8% at 25¡É, 74.0% at 27¡É, and 46.0% at 30¡É, indicating the best hatchability rate at the temperature condition of 23¡É. Larval periods were 341.5¡¾23.2 days at 15¡É, 265.5¡¾17.5days at 20¡É, and 250.9¡¾11.7days at 25¡É. Pupal periods were 94.7¡¾11.5days at 15¡É, 41.7¡¾9.1 days at 20¡É, and 18.5¡¾7.4 days at 25¡É. Emergence rate was 23.3, 89.3 and 80.7%, respectively at the above temperatures. Adult longevity of female was 18.0 days at 15¡É, 20.4 days at 20¡É, 10.7 days at 25¡É, and 5.8 days at 30¡É.
