The effect of relative humidity (RH) on the quality of 'Niitaka' pears (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) was studied using two types of pallet covers made of polyethylene film for maintaining a high RH in commercial low temperature storage rooms. The pallet covers are referred to as open pallet cover and closed pallet cover. The open type had an opening at the top of the cover to allow greater air circulation. Relative humidity (RH), fruit temperature, gas concentration, weight loss, firmness, crispness, and decay were evaluated during storage.
