Recent increase of the attack by vespidae wasps attack to the apiaries have often caused significant economic loss to the beekeepers in Korea by en masse attack and killing the entire colonies. From bait trapping, 10 species of Vespidae were collected; in Vespinae, 6 of Vespa and 1 of Vespula, and in Polistinae, 1 of Parapolybia and 2 of Polistes. Overall, Vespa ducalis, V. mandarinia and V. crabro flavofasciata were dominant. Here, for easy field identification and better understnading of the Vespid wasps, we provide the pictorial keys for each species and summarize the life history strategies of this group of insects. Some suggestion was made to honeybee protection from the hornet attack.
