Two lignans, 1R,2R,5S,6R-2-(4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxyphenyl)-6-(3",4"-dimethoxyphenyl)-3,7-dioxabicyclo[3.3.0]octane 4'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1) and styraxlignolides F (2), were isolated from the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the stem bark of Styrax japonica (Styracaceae). The structures of lignans (1-2) were determined by spectroscopic means. The absolute configuration for styraxlignolides F (2), (2S,3S)-2-(3",4"-dimethoxybenzyl)-3-(4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxybenzyl)-γ-butyrolactone 4'-O-(β-D-glucopyranoside), was unambiguously confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.
