Streptomyces drozdowiczii, a candidate material for herbicidal activity based on soil radiation bacteria metabolism, is effective in controlling several invasive alien and exotic weeds but may be toxic at high concentrations. Another candidate material, Streptomyces achromogenes, has a weaker weed control effect but is safe in terms of toxicity. This study aimed to investigate whether the toxicity issue of S. drozdowiczii culture solution could be overcome by combining it with S. achromogenes, which has different characteristics. Under greenhouse and field conditions, the combination treatment was found to enhance the weed control effect even at lower doses than the individual treatments. These results suggest that combining S. drozdowiczii with S. achromogenes is an ideal approach to address the toxicity concerns associated with high-concentration S. drozdowiczii treatment. This combination treatment is expected to be an eco-friendly and effective method for controlling invasive alien and agricultural weeds.
