Growth Inhibition of Creeping Bentgrass after Applying Paclobutrazol
2023
Kang, J.H. | Kim, Y.S.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of paclobutrazol (PB) application on the growth and quality in creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris L.). The treatments were as follows; Control (No plant growth regulator), TE (trinexapac-ethyl 0.01 a.i. g m⁻² 100 mL), halfrecommended amount of PB (PB; PB 0.017 a.i. g m⁻² 200 mL), recommended amount of PB (2PB; 0.034 a.i. g m⁻² 200 mL) and double-recommended amount of PB (4PB; 0.068 a.i. g m⁻² 200 mL). As compared to control and TE treatment after PB treatment, turfgrass quality such as turf color index and chlorophyll content in all PB treatments (PB, 2PB, and 4PB) did not significantly differences between treatments. Compared to control, shoot growth of PB treatments decreased by 34-38%, and clipping yield by 78-81% and showed no significant difference from that of the TE treatment. These results indicated that the application of paclobutrazol was inhibited by the shoot growth, while was not toxic in creeping bentgrass.
