The flora and fauna of Andaman and Nicobar islands are still not fully known. Recent explorations in the Nicobar islands have added new records to Indian flora which is subjected to biotic and a biotic pressures. Over 50 plant species were collected only once and never again front these islands and are known only for their type collections. The 36 plant species belonging to 17families are included in Red Data Books. There is need to conserve germplasm in Bay islands.
