Epidemiological studies on gangrenous syndrome in buffaloes and cattle of Bihar

A survey of different districts of Bihar were conducted for epidemiological studies on gangrenous syndrome in buffaloes and cattle during the period from January, 2000 to March 2001. Altogether 92 cases have been recorded from different regions of Bihar. The buffaloes were found to be more affected (86%) than cattle (14%). The occurance of disease was higher in Patna districts, whereas Buxar and Bhabhua were least affected areas. The most common symptoms were tail gangrene as well as swelling and gangrene of hooves in both buffaloes and cattle. The age, sex and season have also affected the incidence of this disease. Altogether 8 animals (7 buffaloes and 1 cattle) died due to gangrenous syndrome.
