The economic aspects of flowers have been realized very recently. Two important components of budding floriculture industry are: supply of propagation material such as seeds, bulbs, cuttings tubers, and tissue culture raised plants; and to trade of cut flowers. This has renewed research interest in the floricultural crops. The pace at which changes are required, conventional tools (such as breeding) needs to be supplemented with biotechnological tools such as genetic engineering.
