Biofertilizers for organic production of agaricus bisporus
2002

The nitrogen deficiency in mushroom substrate is fulfilled by adding other N-rich supplements like chicken manure, brewer's grain, cottonseed-cake and urea. However, no attention is given to supplement other elements like sulphur and phosphorus which are equally important particularly in catalysing several biochemical activities being performed by the mushroom. The phosphorus deficiency in the growing medium not only limits the availability of phosphorus to the mushrooms but it also stops the assimilation and utilization of nitrogen by the mushroom mycelium and adversely affects its productivity. Moreover, with increasing demands for organic farming, the biofertilizers are gaining importance for raising a quality crop of Agaricus bisporus (white button mushroom).
