The present investigation was carried out to compare the efficiency of 18 commercial stain removers on different fresh and old blood, chocolate and coffee stains. For this purpose, stains were applied on a white cotton fabric by a standard method. Stained samples were then treated with different commercial stain removers both in fresh and old conditions. Processed samples were evaluated by giving them ratings according to an arbitrary evaluation scale comprising seven ratings. Fisher's F-test was applied to the mean efficiency ratings of each stain remover for a particular stain to determine the statistical difference between the efficiency of different stain removers. Stain removers, found to be equal in maximum efficiency experimentally as well as statistically, were compared in terms of economy to make recommendation for the most efficient stain remover for a particular stain. Superol (s) for fresh blood and chocolate stain and Auxitol A for old coffee and chocolate stain were recommended as best stain removers.
