2003
Kalita, A. | Baishya, G. (Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati (India))
Ovaries from 21 Assam goats were utilized for age associated follicular and oocyte population from birth to 6 months of age, viz. group 1 (at birth), group 2 (1 month), group 3 (2 months), group 4 (3 months),group 5 (4 months), group 6(5 months) and group 7 (6 months). The mean number of primordial follicle and its oocyte gradually decreased while primary, early secondary and late secondary follicles showed a fluctuating pattern of population with the increasing age of Assam goat. The mean number of Graafian follicle and its oocytes gradually increased with a gradually decrease in number of atretic follicles with age. The values for number of follicles and oocytes were slightly higher in the left ovary than that of the right one, within the same age-group. However, the higher values in the left ovary were not significantly different than those of the right ovary in any of the age-groups.
