Normal values of different biochemical and haematological indices as well as the effect of age on them were studied in 35 healthy female Spiti horses. TLC and TEC values were significantly higher in yearling than those in other age groups while reverse were true for MCV and MCH contents. The GGT and SGPT were significantly higher in adult horses than yearlings while SDH activity was significantly higher than young stock females. However, activities of LDH, ICDH, SCOT, CK and ALP were at par in the females of different age groups, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride were significantly higher in yearlings, calcium, magnesium and chloride did not vary in various age groups while phosphorus was significantly higher in yearlings as compared to mares of other age groups. Most of these indices were appreciably higher than those observed in other indigenous breed of horses.
