Forty-five hybrids developed through 10 x 10 diallel set (excluding reciprocals) were exposed to high temperature stress by sowing them under late sown condition to identify the best hybrids for further amelioration of grain yield of barley in different farming situations under warmer areas. Nine hybrids revealed significant positive heterosis over better parent, ranging from 3.21 (BG 25 x BG 105) to 86.43 per cent (BL 2 x K 125). Four crosses viz., BL 2 x K 125 (86.43), DL 100 x K 125 (53.87), DL 100 x BG 105 (37.23) and RD 103 x BL 2 (36.84) showed substantial hybrid vigor coupled with low inbreeding depression. These crosses could be exploited commercially through hybrid variety or suitable variety be developed by exploiting the high magnitude of heterosis for warmer areas by adopting breeding methods such as biparental mating and/or recurrent selection by intermating the most desirable segregants for tangible advancement of grain yield in barley.
