Sulphate adsorption study was carried out in nine surface soils of old alluvial belt of south Bihar plain widely differing in their characteiristics and available S content. At lower levels ofS addition, the percentage of suphate adsorbed wa~ less as compared to higher levels of S appplication. Some soils produed S- type and others produced Ltype of adsorption isotherm curves. The S- type of curve showed the affinity of sulphate towards solution phase at its lower concentration and at higher concentration, its affinity was more tor solid phase. The L- type of adsorption curves indicated that affinity of sulphate to remain in solution phase was more at lower sulphate concentration as compared to solid phase. Out of several adsorption models tested, the adsorption date for all soils fitted well to only Freundlich adsorption isotherm, R2 value ranged from 0.929 ** to 0.989 **.
