unknown. The P1, P2, F1, F2,BC2 andBC2 generations of'NBRI l' x 'Pap Sell)'(papaverine line selection) and 'NBR12' x'Pap Sel2' of opium poppy (Papaversomniferum L.) was subjected to the analysis of components of variation using firstand second degree statistics during 1991-92. Higher mean values (X) were observed in BC2 indicating that through thebackcross of better recombinants with the donor parent followed by recurrent selection, high papaverine genotypes mayhe developed. Joint scaling test showed the adequacy of the additive-dominance model for the papaverine content inboth the crosses. The interaction components indicated that additive x dominance (i) and dorminance x dominance (1)gene action played an important role in the inheritance of papaverine content.
