Potato early dying (Verticillium wilt of potato) is an important disease of potato. The pathogen is transmitted through seeds to unifested areas. A study conducted during 2003- 2005, on the occurrence of the disease in the main seed increasing area of Iran. Soil and plant samples were collected from 128 fields in 7 provinces. The results indicated all the provinces namely, Ardabil, Esfahan, Hamadan, Khorasan, Kordestan, Kerman and Tehran, were infested by Verticillium dahliae. Verticillium albo-atrum was only isolated from some samples collected in Esfahan. Mean soil population was high enough ( 33 cfu/ gr dry soil), which indicate serious measures must be taken to produce healthy seeds.
