Ten maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars; Sarhad White, Sarhad Yellow, Shaheen, PS-7930, Ehsan, Bahar, Azam, Faisal, Changez and Dehqan were screened at germination for salt tolerance at about 0, 10, 15, 20 and 25 dSm -1 of saturation extract, produced by addition of NaCl solution. Salt addition progressively and significantly reduced the germination percentage. Shaheen and PS-7930 had comparatively better germination while Sarhad Yellow and Dehqan had poor germination. It could be concluded that maize is a moderately salt tolerant crop at germination.
