Total bacterial load in pond water, slime and kidney of fish varied from 3.6 x 10 power 3 to 2.8 x 10 power 6 CFU/ml, 3.0 x 10 power 4 to 5.7 x 10 power 8 CFU/g and 2.9 x 10 power 1 to 5.6 x 10 power 4 CFU/g respectively. Isolated bacterial genera/groups were Micrococcus, Coryneforms, Flavobacterium, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Enterobacteria, Bacillus, Acinetobacter and Achromobacter. Sensitivity of the isolated Aeromonads and Pseudomonads to various antibacterial agents was determined. Higher percentage of resistant Aeromonads and Pseudomonads were observed against oxytetracycline followed by erythromycin.
