Wheat crop yield loss assessment due to weeds
2002
Khan, M. | Haq, N. (Agricultural Research Inst., Tarnab (Pakistan))
This study was conducted at various locations of NWFP, during 1992-93 through 1994-95 to determine the effects of various weed management treatments, on wheat yield. Treatments were grassy weed control, broad leaf weed control, total weed control and no weed control. Grassy weeds were controlled with Pumaþs, broad leaf weeds with Buctril-M and mixed stand of weeds with Dicuran MA-60. Locations were Agricultural Research Institute, Tarnab, Jalala, Mardan, Sakhakot, Malakand Agency and Chambi, Kohat. Grassy and broad leaf weeds were equally prevalent at all locations, and decreased wheat yield at all locations. Grassy weeds reduced wheat yield 30%, broad leaf 24% and mix stand reduced wheat yield 48%. Regression analysis suggested a negative correlation of 4 between weeds and wheat yield. Coefficient of determination (R2) of 22% suggested that weed presence accounted for 22% variability in wheat yield.
