Baloch, M.A.
It is quite high time for Balochistan province that due to shortage of irrigation water and uncertain rainwater, no any good crop is grown on its soil. Jawar is only the crop, which tolerate hazard for sometime. It is very hard crop, which can be grown on little water and on, any type of soils, which allows penetration of plant roots in it. Thus the farmers of this area only grow jawar for fodder grain purpose. Objective of the study was how much our farmers are aware of this new technology of agriculture and what acutely they need to know in this regard. The data obtained through questionnaires reveals that 16 respondents (53.3%) were aged between 41 and onwards. All these were looking little order, but energetic and experienced. The educational level of the respondents were little but not good enough. Majority of participants having 33.3% were quite illiterate. The size of land holding were also very few acres. 12 respondents (40.0%)have own 7-12 acres of land. In Balochistan province, the tenure system is not so common, every farmers do try to cultivate whatever the piece of land the possess. But it was also seed that 12 respondents (40.0%) were owner cum tenant also. Looking to another important demographic characters of the respondents about marital status. It was found that 26 respondents (86.7%) were married. I must let every body know that in Balochistan early marriage are quite common. Regarding living on farm land, it was noted that 23 respondents (76.66%) are living in the portion land they are cultivating. Language communication is done by majority of 19 farmers (63.33%) in Sindh. The awareness farmers regarding technology, it was found that knowledge of oil fertility, which ranked let, and an average value of 2.90 were given to this topic. The source of information, which are regarded as Source of extension diffusing ideas to the farmers, the respondents said neighbors and friends are best source of information. This were ranked 1st and an average value of 3.46 were gained by this topic. The instructional programmes beneficial of the respondents, the participants gave rank number 1 to conference for farmers. This also gained an average value of 2.56 as highest one. Regarding the organizing of training courses at various places, the farmers preferred to have training at village level, this was ranked as 1st within 2.94 average value. The last part of the questionnaire which were multiple in nature shows that giving quick information about diseases, is of greater importance to farmers which ranked 1st and average value of 2.93 were given to this topic. Regarding government programmes. It was learnt that farmers prefer to have new and latest technology. This was also ranked 1st with average value of 3.26. Regarding programmes of research station (Uthal) it was noted that guide about insect and pest diseases the given to the farmers in time, this was also ranked on 1st and with an average value of 2.96. The technology advancement in the country is quite slow. People who live in remote areas are even not aware of who actually the term technology means. The technology simple or hard must come to the concerned people as early as it can, so as to take full benefit of that technology. The province of Balochistan could be considered as backward in every aspect of life. People are living there with miserable life. They do not have even electricity. drinking water from tops and staple food of Pakistani masses. They are still cultivating crops on old traditional pattern. Nothing new were observed by me. However, during this study they were motivated about technology and they are quite serious to learn and adopt new technology, if diffused to them. Jawar is the only cereal crop grown in our area. It needs to be sown with new methods, viz., drilling of seed, preparation of tillage operations good developed varieties and proper storage and marketing. This crop is grow twice in a year, which yields not much more, but it is used for fodder purpose and for human consumption. The Agriculture Research Station Uthal is doing well to develop new high yielding varieties and diseases resistance varieties, but this research has not reached to the common farmers.
