A preliminary survey on forest fires in Pakistan

Forest fires occur in Pakistan every year and are consideredvery severe and extensive in view of small size of the forest. Howeverno qualitative data on the occurrence and extent of forest fires in thecountry are available for the formulation of nation-wise strategy. Apreliminary survey on the occurrence and extent of forest fires indifferent forest areas of Pakistan was carried out in the year 2001through questionnaire. Results are described in the form of foresttypes and the area burnt each year, seasons of forest fires, causes offorest fires and reasons/constraints of forest departments in thecountry in fire prevention and control. At the end recommendationsare given.
