Airthery loch is a freshwater loch (lake) situated in Stirling,Scotland. The area of the loch is 6.9 ha, with depth 2.0 to 4.5 m. Theloch is surrounded b y plantation o f Salix s.p. Water supply to the lochis from Wharry Burn Catchments. In winter loch surface freezes andduring summer water temperature rises up to 21 degree C. Annually D.O.ranges from 9.40 mg/L to 13.25 mg/L, pH 6.4 to 9.5 conductivity 220 to280 s/cm. TDS 90 to 131 mg/L. Divers zooplankton population in the lochincludes Diaptomous sp, Cyclops agilis, Cyclops viridus, Acanthocyclopsrobustus. Whereas, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss; minnow(Phoxinus phoxinus); eel (Anguilla anguilla) and threespined stickleback(Gasterosteus aculeatus) are fish found in the loch. This study indicatesenriched nature of the loch and its relatively stable physiochemicalprofile. The loch is productive water body and seems to be a favourableenvironment for the cycling of a parasite with plankton bound life cyclelike Proteocephalus filicollis.
