Infestation and varietals preference of codling moth (Cydia pomonella L.)in apple

A survey was conducted to determine degree of infestation and varietalspreference of codling moth on apple. Fourteen villages with a total of 40orchards were selected for survey at Gilgit during 1999. One hundred andfifty fruits were randomly selected and observed for codling moth infestation.Maximum infestation of codling moth on apple was 62 percent at Sultanabadwhile minimum infestation was 11 percent at Morkhoon. Overall averageinfestation was 25.55 percent. Average infestation in variety Red Delicious,Golden Delicious, Noor Shah and Gohar Aman was 19.00, 20.07, 38.64 and 24.50percent respectively. It shows that Noor Shah was highly infested and RedDelicious was least infested by codling moth.
