Deposition of extra iron in various tissues of the body during thalassaemiaand other chronic refractory anaemia has adverse effects on these tissues.Iron chelators are used to get rid of this situation. In present work rabbits(Orytolagus cuniculus) were artificially overloaded with iron. Iron was injectedin the form of iron sorbitol. Iron in serum and various tissues increased whencompared with normal rabbits. Two drugs GCZI and GCZII were given to therabbits orally for 25 days at the rate of 2ml/day in two equally spaced doses. These drugs eliminated the extra iron from serum and tissues significantly, but the iron elimination action of the drugs seems largely to be due to thealcohol, the vehicle used for these drugs.
