Degradation of soils in arable land located in the zone of pipeline construction
Spychalski, M. | Kazimierowski, C.(Akademia Rolnicza, Poznan (Poland). Katedra Gleboznawstwa i Rekultywacji)
The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the degrading effect of increasing bulk density of soil on its physical properties. The study has shown that the use of heavy machines in the zone of pipeline construction resulted in a substantial increase in the soil density down to a depth of about 50 cm. The bulk density in this zone exceded the critical value allowing root development - 1.8 Mg/cubic m for sandy loams, the content of macro- and mezopores did not exceed 10 percent volume and the saturated hydraulic conductivity was practically no higher than 1 mm/s
