1999
Krauklis, A. (University of Latvia, Riga (Latvia). Faculty of Geographical and Earth Sciences)
Heaths are a vegetation derived from the forest growing in acid soils either mineral or organic parent material, poor in base content. In the given paper heaths in the landscape of Britain and Latvia are described. The paper deals with a comparative examination of the heath like communities of sandy habitats in the hilly and plain landscape of Latvia, and the "northern" and "oceanic" types of British upland heaths (moors). The emphasis is put on geographical and ecological properties of dry and wet heaths, and their relationships with the forests and mires both in Britain and Latvia.
