Ecological pecularities of periphytic communities and macroinvertebrates are investigated in the streams of the Slītere National park and North Vidzeme Biosphere reserve. Undisturbed shaded river stretches situated in river valleys are characterised by scanty periphyton communities and rich macrozoobenthoss fauna dominated by lithoreophilous species. Composition of invertebrate communities is formed by reophilous species. Potamon habitats are dominated by filamentous algae and potamophilous species of macroinvertebrates. Most of biotopes show good ecological conditions. Experiment with artificial substrates shows fouling communities succession.
