This article is based on a series of seminars about permaculture organized together with the Latvian Eco-health farm network in summer 2010, during which Latvian organic farmers evaluated the compatibility of permaculture principles with Latvian organic farmers evaluated the compatibility of permaculture principles with Latvian rural practices and cultural meanings. The article explores the significance of diversity and edges in Latvian organic farms and farmers' views of the applicability of permaculture principles for Latvian rural development.
