2013
Balode, A., Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Agriculture
Asiatic and Trumpet hybrid lilies have been extensively hybridized in Latvia. The resulting cultivars have been found to be most suitable for gardens, as well as landscape designs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the flowering time of lily cultivars and species. 26 Asiatic, 4 LA, 4 Trumpet, 4 Oriental and 7 species were evaluated for flowering time. Ten plants were selected from each cultivar. Plants were cultivated in the field trial of the Laboratory of Cultivated Plants and Apilogy of the Latvia University of Agriculture under the field conditions and no fungicides were applied during the seasons of 2009, 2010 and 2011. In the field trial the flowering started in 36 to 92 days since the beginning of vegetation. The Caucasian species required the shortest period of time to produce flowers in comparison to other lilies. Trumpet and Oriental hybrids, as well as Lilium henryi required the longest period of time since the emergence of shoots to flowering.
