We live in difficult times when, on the one hand, we have to be smart with available resources, and on the other hand, we have to think about environmental aspects within the framework of the “green deal”. Smart with resources, including providing plants with nutrients, causes the availability of mineral fertilizers and related economic aspects. Not just two, but three sometimes you have to think before what to sprinkle to the right and to the left. The investment of each action should also be considered utility of means. It is essential to build what is intended for the common garden area soil fertility, improve its properties. Nutrients, also in the form of mineral fertilizers, should be provided first for a younger garden. You don’t need a job just after a job. To evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization and its application strategy, a research project “Apple, plum and cherry varieties and rootstocks suitable for integrated and organic cultivation examination of different regions and their cultivation technology development” (2015–2020) was conducted at the Institute of Horticulture by setting up a trial. As a result, developed technologies and recommendations can be found on the website of the “Technology Transfer Centre”: https://fruittechcentre.eu/lv/abeles. The diagrams show changes in the cross-sectional area of the trunk over six years in a productive garden for the apple variety ‘Gita’, square cm; average yield of four apple varieties (‘Gita’, ‘Antejs’, ‘Kovalenkovskoye’ and ‘Ligol’), provided differently with nitrogen, eight to thirteen years in an old productive garden, t/ha; production efficiency for the apple variety ‘Gita’, referring to the yield obtained from the tree in a certain period of time against the increase in trunk cross-sectional area, kg/square cm and average fruit size in the year of high yield (2020), g.
