Movement, pH effect and nitrification of band-applied anhydrous ammonia, urea and sulphate of ammonia in an alkaline black earth
1973
Whitehouse, M.J. | Leslie, J.K.
Data from a laboratory experiment showed that movement of the ammonium ion was mainly lateral and vertically upward. Anhydrous NH3 was the most mobile fertilizer. Anhydrous NH3 and urea increased pH initially, but this increase was soon followed by a rapid decrease. Urea and anhydrous NH3 were almost completely nitrified after thirty days, but only 80% of the (NH4)2SO4 was nitrified after ninety days.
