Densitometric and spectrophotometric methods were worked out for determination of hypericin in Herba Hyperici after previous thin-layer chromatography separation on silica gel G by means of ethyl acetate-formic acid 96% (50:6) as a mobile phase. Fluoroscence of hypericin caused by UV light of 360 nm wave-length was measured densitometrically. the error of the method was equal to 2.4%. Hypericin was extracted from silica gel by means of methanol and absorbance of the solution obtained was taken at 591 nm. The error of the method was greater this time and reached 4.7%. The results obtained by means of the both methods worked out were similar only in the case of crude drugs containing more than 0.1% hypericin.
