English. A severe disease of prickly pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica Mill.) is reported in Sicily. The disease is caused by the fungus A. mellea (Vahl ex Fr.) Kummer; it appears in locations where prickly pear cactus, which is cultivated for edible fruits, is planted in association with other infected fruit-trees, indicating that the last are the sources of inoculum.

L'agente causale della malattia e il fungo Amillaria mellea (Vahl. ex Fr.) Kummer. La malattia si manifesta dove il ficodindia, che e coltivato per la produzione di frutti eduli, e consociato ad altre specie arboree infette che probabilmente costituiscono la fonte d'inoculo.
