Results are given of a cassava commercialization study conducted in Asuncion, Paraguay, mainly based on information gathered in a marketing and consumption survey conducted in 1987, at the wholesale, retail, and consumer levels. Data were compiled on the different components of the process of commercializing fresh cassava roots, commercialization channels, vol. and prices per participant, transportation and commercialization costs, benefits and returns in marketing the product, factors affecting the purchase, and the behavior of commercialization vol. General characteristics of cassava wholesale and retail markets and of cassava consumers are given; furthermore, consumer behavior according to socioeconomic status and to access to markets of the capital is illustrated. Cassava root deterioration during commercialization is also indicated; the conservation of roots in plastic bags could help solve the problems encountered.Show more [+] Less [-]
