Observation on the grazing behavior of carabao under themeda pasture during dry season [Philippines].
1984
Orena N.R.
Grazing time during the day decreased as temperature increased and night time temperature did not influence the night time grazing period of the animals. Grazing by animals was accomplished longer during night time. Shade seeking and wallowing were the most effective means of overcoming heat stress during daytime. The animals spent more time seeking shade than wallowing a phenomenon attributed to the inadequacy of wallowing points. Shade-seeking was significantly correlated with temperature. Rumination was accomplished mostly during night time while the animals were resting but temperature did not affect the rumination time of the carabaos. Stocking rate did not significantly affect pasture grazing time, and supplemental feeding time, and amount of feed consumed.
