Results revealed that generally a rice farmer in Nueva Ecija [Philippines] was 47 years old, married, and elementary grade level. On the average, he had a family of six, farmed for 21.6 years on a 2.56-hectare land in which he had a yield of 66.65 cavans per hectare during wet season and 95.98 cavans during dry season. He was an early adopter of high yielding varieties but a late adopter on chemical fertilizers and pesticide technologies. A farmer's traits of patience, obedience, and creativity were significantly related with his adoption of chemical fertilizers and high yielding varieties. Among the socio-economic variables, educational attainment, farm experience and farm yield were significantly related with traits of creativity, responsibility, sociobility, and intelligence. Test of construct validity of the instrument Panukat ng Pagkataong Pilipino showed that the different subscales measured a common factor, the construct of personality. This suggests the general applicability of the instrument with rural samples.
