Extract: A survey of preschool children in 4 areas of England was carried out during 1973 and 1974. Questions on dietary patterns and feeding practices showed that breast feeding was more common in Southern England and in the non-manual social/occupational classes. Compared with surveys in the 1930's and 1950's, this one showed a trend away from bread and potatoes for feeding children around 6 months old. Some regional and social class differences in the general pattern of food given at that age were also found. (author).
