A microbiological investigation performed on uretral swabs of stallions and cervical swabs of mares permitted the isolation of Mycoplasmas from 13 out of 49 stallions examined (26,53%). All the brood mares resulted negative. From seven of 13 stallions positive with one or more swabs, it was possible to isolate and identify M. equigenitalium. Some stallions were positive to successive swabs carried out several months from the first. An epizoological investigation made on the basis of relative data of the reproductive curses of the stallions has permitted, in some cases, to reveal a certain correlation between the presence of Mycoplasmas in the low urethral-genital tract and low index of fertility.
