Variation in moisture content, percent saturation and collapse following felling in trees of Eucalyptus regnans F. Muell.
1986
Chafe S.C.
Measurements of trees at 3 intervals following felling (0,9 and 35 days) demonstrated that the moisture content and percent saturation of the sapwood showed a highly significant decrease. In the heartwood, both values showed a small but significant increase, located primarily towards the pith and towards the top of the tree. Small but statistically insignificant decreases in moisture content and percent saturation were evident in the remainder of the heartwood. The changes in sapwood and heartwood moistures are discussed. Corrected collapse values based on control trees were generally similar for all times after felling.
