Silinevica I.

The geographical position of Rezekne, its area, relief and surroundings are described. Rezekne as a regional and industrial centre is characterized. The main conditions determining the establishment of a special economics zone of Rezekne are explained. The development of the Rezekne Special Economics Zone (RSEZ) started in 1998 is discussed. The following conclusions are drawn: 1) RSEZ offers new business opportunities; 2) the production of goods is profitable for the RSEZ enterprises; 3) the work opportunities have increased and are increasing; 4) the wage rates are higher than in the surrounding area.
