1989
Babic Lj.
The authors reports on the study were aimed to test the effect of Zearalenon on the prostate in rats. Per os were administrated doses of 1 mg, 3 mg and 5 mg per kog of body mass to animals during periods of various duration: 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. The obtained results indicate that Zearlenon's effect on prostate depends on the quantity and the duration of application of the toxin. Histological changes were almost identical to those occuring on the uterus of sows, what is understandable from embryogenetic relationship of these two organs. These changes, especially those resulting from application of higher doses, indicate metaplasia, which could be conductive to malignant alterations. The tests proved harmful effect of Zearalenon on the complex mechanism of the relationships between hormones and glands that produce them. A continuation of this study is necessary with application of higher dosage in a longer period to assay for this toxin.
